In the latest version, clicking on the Airfield icon in the mapping options toolbar brings up a dialog where you can set which types of aerodrome are displayed and optionally limit it to airfields with runways greater than a certain length.

SkyDemon does not map disused airfields per se, but it will show them if they are notified VRPs for an airfield. If you believe there are any notified VRPs that we are missing, let us know along with the airfield they are for.

Hi Tim,

I just dug this topic up, I hope you don't mind.

I'll post in another too!

But, this may solve the issue I was about to raise, which is no disused airfields seem to be displaying, whereas our CAA charts so them for navigational purposes. (the one I was looking for was Upper Heyford, which is in the vicinity of Weston on the Green danger area, next to EGTK.)

I tried looking for this magical setting with regards to hiding airfields, but I don't seem to be able to find it.

Could you point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Sam

I don't want to add an option because I think that in the UK, turning it on would undo a lot of the work undertaken by hiding the short runways in the first place. Which airfield(s) in particular are you concerned about, apart from the one you already mentioned?

I like using this feature to turn off a lot of farm strip airfields. If there were an option to keep airfields showing for which we have no runway data, a lot of them would reappear if it were enabled.

My point is that ALL airfields which don't yet have runway info will be hidden from view for most people (I am assuming that most users will be hiding short RWY airfields).

How about a compromise - add a tick-box to the options "Display airfields with unknown RWY length"?

Why?

The purpose of that feature is to hide airfields you're not likely to want to go to. Most airfields for which we don't have runway data are small farm strips that fall into that category. I appreciate there will be a few false positives but any airfield of a decent size with a decent runway should have its runway data filter through into SkyAngel in time.

If an airfield's RWY length is not known (e.g. EGMJ - Little Gransden) then the airfield is not displayed unless the "Hide Airfields with runways shorter than:" option is set to zero.

I would prefer that such airfields are always shown regardless of this setting.
